As a body of Christ, First Methodist is driven to help those in need. Through Giving, Witness, Service and Hospitality we reach out to our local community as well as missions from around the state. In Giving we reach out to organizations such as The Salvation Army, Family Promise, UCO - United Christian Outreach just to name a few. In Witness we reach out to the community with Trunk or Treat, Easter Sunrise Service, and Financial Health Classes. In Service we work with Habitat for Humanity as well as actively coordinate the Community Thanksgiving Dinner held on church property. In Hospitality we as a church help by providing meeting locations for Contra Dancing, Acoustic Underground, and parking for both Mardi Gras and Festival International. Through these avenues we as a church follow Gods teaching of helping others.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army provides services such as:

Adult Rehabilitation, Veterans Affairs Services, Prison Ministries, Hunger Relief, Housing & Homeless Services, Christmas Assistance, Youth Camps & Recreation, Disaster Relief, Emergency Disaster Services.
Church members participate in the Women's Auxillary, collecting uniforms, Angle Tree, etc.

UL-Lafayette Wesley Campus Ministry

For over 75 years Wesley Campus Ministry has provided a place where ULL students could fellowship with one another, worship God, serve their community, and be disciples of Jesus Christ.

We provide financial support, offer the students an additional place to hold events, give leadership through some of our members, and provide free lunches for the students on a regular basis.

Family Promise

Family Promises mission is to help homeless and low-income families achieve sustainable independence through a community-based response. They coordinate local efforts that bring the community together to help homeless families regain their housing, their independence, and their dignity. They provide temporary housing, meals, and mentor at-risk families. They teach financial literacy. They help find jobs and affordable housing. They create programs to meet specific needs in their communities. And they advocate for public policies that alleviate poverty and promote the economic stability of low-income families.

First Methodist helps by hosting families in the program for a week several times during the year. We are also a sponsor for the Southern Garden Tours fundraiser during the spring.

UCO - United Christian Outreach

An ecumenical body providing assistance for people who need food, and clothing, and cannot afford it. On the first Sunday of every month, we collect food for the Food Pantry. The Center also helps people get referred to appropriate Social Service Agencies.

Community Thanksgiving Dinner

Depending on weather conditions every November our parking lot is turned into a huge dining room. With other Methodist Churches in the Lafayette area a traditional Thanksgiving meal as well as musical entertainment is provided for those residents in need.

Acoustic Underground

Once a month local singer/song writers perform in an intimate setting.
