FAQ’s
AM I WELCOME AT YOUR CHURCH?
Yes! First United Methodist Church embraces Jesus’ message that God loves and affirms every person. Therefore, we invite and welcome all people of every age, gender identity, racial or ethnic background, sexual orientation, marital or socioeconomic status, nationality, physical, or mental ability into full participation in the life of this faith community. We strive to be church where absolutely everyone belongs.
ARE CHILDREN WELCOME AT YOUR CHURCH?
Absolutely! All children are welcome at First United Methodist Church and are encouraged to participate fully in worship, which includes a Children’s Message each Sunday. We also have a nursery for children who are 0-4 years of age and a Family Room in the back of the sanctuary for those in need of a quieter space during worship. We offer Sunday School at 9:00am for all ages.
HOW DO I GET INVOLVED OR BECOME A MEMBER OF YOUR CHURCH?
Sunday morning worship is the best introduction into the life of First United Methodist Church. From there, you are encouraged to consider sitting in on a Sunday School class; participating in one of our small groups; or taking part in one of our outreach or mission opportunities.
If you are considering membership at First United Methodist Church, we invite you to attend a Coffee with the Pastor session offered at various times throughout the year. This is a casual gathering where you can learn about the history of First United Methodist Church, hear from our pastor about the beliefs and traditions of the United Methodist Church, get to know the church a bit better, and discover the steps necessary to become a part of our faith community.
WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE UNITED METHODIST?
As the second largest Protestant denomination in America, United Methodists share a common heritage with other Christians, holding to the historic essentials of the Christian faith. We have a passionate faith with strong convictions, but we also recognize that the world is not always black and white. We are willing to ask questions, to wrestle with difficult issues, and to do so with grace and compassion.
We believe the goal of the Christian life is to love God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and to love your neighbor as you love yourself. From the beginning of the Methodist movement, we have valued passionate worship, relevant preaching, small groups to hold Christians accountable to one another, and serving those who are in need. Furthermore, United Methodists value the full participation of women and men, people of all backgrounds in every facet of fellowship and leadership within the church and society.
